Product Availability
We do our utmost to ensure that we can fulfil every order, but due to the nature of butchery and carcass balance, there may be rare occasions that stock is affected by availability. If this does happen, we will ensure that we send you something lovely as a replacement and get in touch with you to let you know.
Delivery
We offer Tuesday - Saturday delivery to UK mainland addresses. You can place your order before 10am for next day delivery or choose a delivery date up to one month in advance. Deliveries are usually made between the hours of 8am and 6pm.
Nationwide Orders (Outside the M25) – If your order is being delivered outside the M25, our chosen courier, DPD, will send you tracking information on the morning of delivery if a mobile number or email address is provided by you.
Local Orders (Within the M25) – We deliver local orders with our own drivers in temperature-controlled Ginger Pig vans. Currently, we are not set up to provide automated tracking information, however, you are welcome to email us the morning of your delivery for an estimated delivery window. Please email online@thegingerpig.co.uk. Time permitting, we may send you a personal email the evening before delivery.
Delivery Charges - When we opened our shop online our aim was to absorb the larger cost of delivery for as long as we possibly could. Sadly, with rising transport and packaging costs we can no longer do this. Not wanting to compromise on our standards elsewhere, we have decided to ask for a little help through our flat rate delivery charges.
All Nationwide Orders – £10 delivery charge
All Local Orders – minimum order £40, plus £7 delivery charge
Unfortunately, we cannot, at this time, offer delivery to addresses outside of UK Mainland or certain Scottish postcodes due to 24 hour dispatch windows.
We strongly advise that someone is at the delivery address to receive the order on the day of delivery. For Nationwide orders delivered outside the M25, we've designed our packaging to keep the meat cool, when left unopened, until you get home in the evening. Through a text message and email update system and at our online checkout, you are able to advise the courier a 'leave safe' instruction (e.g. a specified safe place or with a neighbour). Please note that this instruction will only be followed if the driver feels it is safe to do so.
Christmas: In the lead up to and during the Christmas period, we will not be able to deliver to postcodes in Scotland and Cornwall. We rely on DPD to deliver our parcels for us and should they have any issues, we always want to be able to resolve them ourselves. There is only so far we can go from London in one of our vans!
Packaging
Our delivery packaging has been tried and tested to ensure that products stay within a refrigerated temperature range throughout your order's journey. Most of our meat is carefully wrapped in butcher's paper, however certain products like mince will usually arrive vacuum packed. (There may be certain times of year when we vacuum pack more items. This will always be to ensure that the product arrives safely to your fridge. You can read more about how best to look after your meat once it reaches you here.) Once our butchers have wrapped your meat, our packing team tucks it into a beautiful branded multi-walled carboard box with eco-friendly, food-safe gel packs. These gel packs defrost gradually in transit and keep the produce at a food safe temperature. Our recycled cardboard boxes are sturdy enough to protect the contents from any bumps along the way and multi-walled for extra insulation against outdoor temperatures.
We love to recycle:
Cardboard box: fully recyclable
Gel packs: Reusable with a weight and coolant comparison approx 2 times that of ice packs, the gel packs are also fully recyclable. Once defrosted cut open the pack and pour the non-toxic, food-safe solution down the drain. Rinsing with hot tap water will help dissolve the gel faster. The plastic outer can be recycled according to your local recycling regulations.
A note on sizes
We're not known for small helpings, and so our portion-size guidelines err on the generous side. This is purely on the assumption that our product is the main feature of your meal. If you're buying several cuts to share, allow a total of 250-300g of meat off the bone, or 500g per person on the bone. Unless stated otherwise, all of our cuts are in one piece.
Shelf life and storage
Please remove all paper wrapping from your meat and place it on a plate in the fridge away from cooked items. This allows air to circulate around it properly, helping to prolong shelf life. Ensure that you do so on the day of purchase. Ensure that the fridge isn't too full so that it maintains the correct temperature.
On arrival please see the labels for use by dates.
Vacuum-packed meat can be put straight in the fridge and has a longer shelf life. Read more about how to store your meat here.
